UPDATED: Pedestrian with two children in stroller struck in Saanich crosswalk after driver failed to yield

No serious injuries reported, driver issued $167 ticket under Motor Vehicle Act, police say

A pedestrian pushing two children in a stroller was struck by the driver of a van in a crosswalk at a Highway 1 off-ramp at Burnside Road West.

According to Saanich police, the incident was reported to 911 call-takers at 9 a.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 24).

Officers said the pedestrian sustained a minor leg injury and no one was taken to the hospital following the incident.

The driver was issued a $167 ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

The off-ramp at Burnside Road West directs drivers off Highway 1, across Colquitz Creek and either south towards Tillicum Shopping Centre or north up Interurban Road.
