A plane reportedly ran our of fuel and had to land in a field Sunday close to the main runway on Pitt Meadows Regional Airport.
The small plane landed in an airport field east of the runway, near Baynes Road, around 2 p.m.
The pilot was the sole occupant and wasn’t injured, confirmed airport manager George Miller.
The Pitt Meadows fire department, as well as paramedics and RCMP attended, while the Transportation Safety Board has been notified.
The Transportation Safety Board deployed an investigator to the landing incident at Pitt Meadows airport on Monday.
“The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence,” the board said.
Miller said the plane landed on airport property, just east of the runway, as it was attempting a landing, heading west, on to the airport’s main runway.
“He landed short of the runway. From what I understand, he ran out of fuel.”
The pilot was experienced and had flown in from Boundary Bay airport to refuel, he added.
“All the emergency services responded extremely well,” Miller said. He’s awaiting the full report from the Transportation Safety Board.
The plane though remains stuck in the mud in the field with the heavy rains making it difficult to move.
