UPDATED: Police arrest dealership break-in suspect

Suspect broke into Douglas Street dealership and stole a vehicle March 3

A man suspected of breaking into a car dealership and stealing a vehicle from it was arrested by Victoria police Thursday afternoon.

Officers were called to a dealership in the 2800-block of Douglas Street shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday for an alarm. Upon investigation, they discovered a suspect had broken into the dealership shortly after midnight, left for several hours and then returned at 4:30 a.m. to steal a vehicle.

Shortly before noon, an off-duty police officer located the stolen vehicle in a parking lot near the Victoria Police Department headquarters at 850 Caledonia Ave.

Thursday, shortly after 3 p.m., police received a report from dealership staff that the man involved had returned to the area. Officers located and arrested him in the 2600-block of Ross Lane, where he was found hiding in a vehicle.

He was transported to cells and held to face several counts of breach of probation. The investigation into the break and enter and vehicle theft remain ongoing.
