On the afternoon of August 8, 2016, the Golden-Field RCMP were advised that a female had allegedly been attacked and tasered while walking near Spirit Square during the early morning hours of August 6.
Our investigation is still in its very early stages, so there are still very few details available,
says Cst. Spencer Lainchbury with the Golden-Field RCMP. Our next steps are to work on completing tasks to determine the timeline, circumstances and motive surrounding the attack.
Shortly after the first incident was reported, police learned through a Facebook post shared on Golden Classifieds, that this was one of two apparent incidents. Police are confirming however that as of Monday night, only one incident has been reported to them and investigators have yet to identify a second victim.
We would really like to speak with the other person. It’s very possible that if there are two incidents, that they are related, but we also want to rule out that this isn’t the same incident that has been reported as two through social media.
Police are also asking anyone else who may have witnessed or heard about either of the attacks contact them directly at 250-344-2221 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Information provided through Crimestoppers is anonymous and a reward may be offered for information that leads to an arrest.
At this time police will be increasing presence on the paths, including bike and foot patrols,
says Cst. Spencer Lainchbury with the Golden-Field RCMP. Police also recommend that those walking at night do so in groups and report any suspicious persons or activity by dialing 911.
