Five people sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries

Emergency crews are on scene on the Trans-Canada Highway for a high speed rear-end crash just south of the Helmcken Road overpass.

View Royal Fire Chief Paul Hurst said five people were transported to hospital. At this time, their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

When firefighters arrived on scene two people were trapped inside a vehicle and needed to be extricated. A third was laying on the grassy medium receiving aid from bystanders. It was unclear if he was thrown from one of the vehicle or was able to exit it after the crash.

“We’re still trying to figure out where everyone was,” Hurst said, adding two vehicles were involved in the crash.

The TCH was closed to southbound traffic at Helmcken Road in View Royal. The highway reopened to traffic at approximately 6 p.m. after crews clear the scene and the West Shore RCMP completed its on scene investigation.
