UPDATED: Victoria police make 23 arrests during #WarrantWednesday

VicPD says arrests part of warrant enforcement project

Victoria police officers made a total of 22 arrests Wednesday as part of a project they have dubbed #VicPDWarrantWednesday.

Tweeting at 8 a.m. Jan. 27, VicPD said “on any given day there are potentially dozens in our community wanted on active warrant arrests” and that officers are spending Wednesday hunting those individuals down.

As of 5:30 p.m., police arrested 23 individuals wanted on a range of warrants from break and enter to manslaughter to assault. Thanks to a tip from the public, the day began with the arrest of a killer and a robber who were wanted Canada-wide after failing to return to their community residential facilities Tuesday morning.

Shortly after 10 a.m., police tweeted that they arrested a 29-year-old man in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue, wanted for break and enter and breach of a release order. Half an hour later, a second 29-year-old was arrested, this one in the 1900-block of Bay Street for breaching court-ordered conditions related to a domestic assault file.

Police arrested a 52-year-old man shortly after 11 a.m. in the 800-block of Johnson Street, wanted for two counts of mischief for damaging property. Just before noon, officers arrested a youth in the 800-block of Esquimalt Road, wanted for failing to comply with court-ordered conditions related to an assault file.

Shortly after, officers located and arrested a 58-year-old woman, wanted for three counts of breaching a probation order related to possession of a knife for a dangerous purpose, in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue. In Beacon Hill Park, police nabbed a 46-year-old man wanted for sexual interference involving a youth.

Another 46-year-old man was arrested shortly after 1 p.m. in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street for driving while prohibited. In the same tweet, police said they arrested a 35-year-old man in the 1200-block of Lyall Street who was wanted for multiple counts of possession of stolen property.

A 26-year-old man was arrested in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue at approximately 2:15 p.m. who was wanted for theft and breach of probation charges. Police grabbed their next in the 1900-block of Douglas Street, taking a 36-year-old man with a violent criminal history and manslaughter conviction into custody. He had a warrant for mischief after throwing a propane tank through a gas station window.

Shortly before 3 p.m., police arrested a 37-year-old man in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue who has been accused of smashing an entryway window in the 1200-block of Yates Street. A 40-year-old woman was later arrested in the 800-block of Esquimalt Road for drug trafficking offences.

Two men were arrested for warrants related to assault shortly after 3 p.m., one a 44-year-old in the 2800-block of Rock Bay Avenue, and the second a 48-year-old in the 1900-block of Bay Street. At 4:30 p.m. police tweeted they had apprehended a 52-year-old man in the 700-block of Caledonia Avenue who was wanted for mischief after smashing a window in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue.

Another 52-year-old man wanted for drug trafficking offences was arrested shortly after in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street. Just after 4:45 p.m. police tweeted two more arrests after nabbing a 38-year-old man in the 700-block of Princess Avenue and 26-year-old man in the 700-block of Queens Avenue for property and drug related offences.

Police made their next arrest near Government Street and Hillside Avenue after apprehending a 35-year-old man wanted for driving while prohibited. A 30-year-old man wanted for weapons possession, break and enter with intent and breach of charges was arrested in the 1400-block of Edgeware Street shortly after 5 p.m.

Finally, police arrested a 22-year-old man on a warrant related to a break and enter file.
