The City of Parksville celebrated the partnerships that enabled the reconstruction of McMillian Street during an official opening Wednesday.

Work on the $3.1 million project was on, or ahead of schedule and budget throughout and has been open to traffic since the end of April.

Though only 300 metres long, the extensive work

involved complete reconstruction, widening and upgrading, new water main and storm sewers, moving wires underground and aesthetic enhancements.

Mayor Chris Burger said he has heard a lot of positive feedback from residents enjoying the safety features like sidewalks, crosswalks and bike lanes and traffic appears to be working much better with the new signal light at the corner of  Hirst Ave.

Mayor Chris Burger thanked BC Hydro and ICBC for their contributions and Windley Contracting and Koers Engineering for their work.
