The province will upgrade approximately two kilometres of Otter Point Road, a key access point for Highway 14, and an important alternative route when the highway is closed, Capital Regional District director Mike Hicks announced Sunday.
Hicks, speaking on behalf of Premier John Horgan at the Otter Point, Shirley and Jordan River Resident and Ratepayers Association annual general meeting, said the upgrades will widen and pave approximately two kilometres of Otter Point Road between the Sooke municipal boundary and Kemp Lake Road.
Once survey and design work is complete, the Highways Ministry will provide an estimated project cost and schedule for the construction of the improvements.

“Over my years as MLA, I have heard many safety concerns from the community about Otter Point Road and many suggestions on how to make it better for people. These upgrades will help keep drivers, cyclists and pedestrians moving safely,” said Horgan, MLA for Langford-Juan de Fuca, in a press release.
The Otter Point Road project is now part of the suite of Highway 14 corridor improvements announced in January that include transit pullouts and a queue jump lane, safety signs, a new Gillespie Road bridge, Sooke River Road intersection upgrade, Muir Creek slow-moving vehicle pullout, and Sombrio rest area.
More intersection upgrades, passing opportunities, improvements for transit, highway shoulder widening and alignment improvements are under development in consultation with the community.
“These improvements to Otter Point Road are greatly appreciated by the residents,” said Hicks, CRD director for the Juan de Fuca electoral area.
“We are extremely fortunate to have John Horgan as our representative. Not only does he understand our problems, he has the interest and influence to solve them.”
