Uproar over ALC

The Regional District of North Okanagan is upset over ALR changes

Changes to the Agricultural Land Commission aren’t going over well.

The Regional District of North Okanagan is raising concerns about new legislation the Liberal majority in the Legislature approved regarding the Agricultural Land Reserve.

“More consultation was required,” said director Mike Macnabb.

The new rules will allow some non-farm uses to occur within the ALR in the north, Kootenay and Cariboo zones.

There will also be six local ALC panels to make decisions on exclusions and permitted uses.

RDNO wants local MLAs and the Ministry of Agriculture to attend a meeting and discuss the changes.

“We need to say we’re disappointed,” said director Juliette Cunningham of the process.
