A man was arrested earlier this month after he smashed a gun display case at the Canadian Tire store in Penticton.

The incident on Jan. 12 began when the man took a sledgehammer off a store shelf then used it to bust the glass on a display case that contained both guns and ammunition, according to Penticton RCMP spokesman Sgt. Rick Dellebuur.

“He was saying that he was just trying to prove a point that the firearms and the ammunition shouldn’t be kept together,” said Dellebuur.

Mounties arrested the man at the store and found a gun in his car that was parked outside. Dellebuur said the man faces possible charges related to mischief and illegal firearm possession, and may have mental health issues.
