Students living on campus at Coast Mountain College (CMTN) will need to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19, starting Sept. 7.

“CMTN supports and commits to policies on vaccinations, mask-wearing, and other safety measures consistent with B.C. Provincial orders and guidelines,” said CMTN in an Aug. 30 statement.

The requirement is based on an order of the provincial health officer which requires people in B.C. to show proof of vaccination to access what the province deems non-essential events, services and businesses.

That order comes into effect province-wide starting Sept. 13, but post-secondary students living in on-campus housing will need at least one dose by Sept. 7.

BC Colleges, an association of public colleges in the province that includes CMTN, expressed support for B.C.’s COVID-19 measures in a media release on Aug. 27.

“The introduction this week of mandatory masks in all indoor common spaces on campus, including classrooms, and the roll-out of the proof of vaccination program for on-campus housing, restaurants and bars and non-educational activities, support a full and safe return to campus.”

The association recommends people coming to B.C. from outside the province for school submit their vaccination record at immunizationrecord.gov.bc.ca.
