On Thursday morning shortly before noon, around 60 people gathered to honour the lives of missing and murdered women as part of the annual Women’s Memorial March.

Organizer Kristy Bell addressed the crowd of about 60 people at the courtyard in front of the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay.

The first Women’s Memorial March began on Feb. 14, 1992 in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver in response to the murder of a Coast Salish woman on Powell Street.

The first Women’s Memorial March in the Comox Valley began on Feb. 14, 2014 to honour the life of Selina Wallace.
