A vehicle that had been speeding was ultimately destroyed by flames.

At about 11:40 p.m. Thursday, RCMP officers attempted to stop a van for speeding and failing to stop at a stop sign in the Otter Lake Road area of Spallumcheen.

“The vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. Our officers did not pursue it,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

At about 2:20 a.m. Friday, the fire department called the RCMP about a van on fire near 32nd Street and 25th Avenue in Vernon.

“Officers were quickly able to determine the van on fire was the same van that failed to stop for them earlier in the evening,” said Molendyk.

“The fire is deemed to be suspicious and the police are continuing to investigate.”
