Roaring wind and driving rain are expected to ease off overnight.
Environment Canada’s wind warning remains in effect in Nanaimo and other areas of Vancouver Island, but winds are forecast to become light late this evening, with rain forecast to stop at midnight.
B.C. Hydro was reporting about 20,000 customers on Vancouver Island affected by outages as of late afternoon Tuesday, with Campbell River the hardest-hit region.
B.C. Ferries advised that it is cancelling all sailings for the rest of the day on major routes including Departure Bay-Horseshoe Bay and Duke Point-Tsawwassen. A service notice from the ferry corporation apologized for any inconvenience as a result of the cancellations and said safety of passengers and crew is of primary importance.
