The weather was hot at the 2013 Vanderhoof Airshow. It made it a little more difficult for the planes but they still managed to take off and wow the audience with powerful engines and aerobatic maneuvers.
Among the acts this year was Peter Herzig who performed a number of tricks with enigmatic names like a half Cuban, a reverse sharks tooth, and something called a centre box humpty.
Other acts included the Watson brothers on two yellow Harvards, stunt pilot Ron Andrew, wingwalker Carol Pilon, hang-glider Dan Buchanan, John and Richard Mrazek flying jets and “Super Dave” Mathieson.
The Vanderhoof RCMP were out in full force on Saturday working to keep the community safe and enforcing their zero tolerance policy on drinking related offences.
The plane flown by Peter Hertzig has 1,425 horsepower and a 10 foot propeller. It is a 62 year old design and was used by Americans during the Vietnam War to drop napalm and fly the Air American CIA.
The “Yellow Thunder” Watson brothers flew their North American T-6 Texans, or “Harvards” as they’re commonly known. These aircrafts have 550 horsepower each and they performed several maneuvers including flying in attack formation.
