The 33rd Annual Prince George Iceman saw multiple participants of all ages from Vanderhoof this year who brought home medals as well.
The annual Prince George event is multi-sport and brings together everyone from beginner to elite athletes and includes both solo and relay teams.
Participants first ski, then go onto a 10 km run, followed by a skate, a 5km run and a swim.
A total of thirty-two active people from Vanderhoof took part, said Brian Nemethy, avid cross country runner and teacher. Additionally there were three people who did the entire event on their own, and they are all over 60 years of age.
Nemethy’s team Thru the Ages placed seventh in the open mixed category.
In the solo event, Mark Allison of Vanderhoof placed third in his category of Veteran Men and finished the event in three hours, one minute and fifty-eight seconds.
Bill Ransome of Vanderhoof again placed fourth in the same category of Veteran Men and finished the race in three hours, nine minutes and four seconds.
In the Veteran Women category, Karen Allison brought home the gold by going solo, with a timing of three hours, ten minutes and eleven seconds to complete the race.
Relay teams from Vanderhoof participated in the Masters Men, Open Women, Open Mixed Division, Junior Girls and Junior Mixed categories.
In the Masters Men category for the open relay category, the team from Vanderhoof called Skater Dads ver30 came first by finishing their race in 2 hours 18 minutes and 6 seconds.
In the Open Women category, Vanderhoof’s team called Icemanity placed second with a time of two hours, 19 minutes and 15 seconds.
Zoe Dhillon, Nicole Ebert, Jessica Seely and Janet Neufeld participated in the Open Women’s division, and Dhillon said it was very exciting to place second as they were competing against 14 other teams.
“Iceman is always such a wonderful event that brings together people of all strengths and abilities,” she said.
The Junior Girls Team from town called Ice Girls came third with a time of two hours, 18 minutes and 57 seconds. And our Junior Mixed Team named Vander Ice came in third as well with a time of two hours, 10 minutes and 15 seconds.
