Two Vernon brothers were taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital for observation after they were knocked down by a car in a marked crosswalk Thursday.
The brothers, aged 12 and nine, had gone to get a slushy at a gas station, and were returning home, walking on a green light in a crosswalk at the intersection of 25th Avenue and 43rd Street at 7:30 p.m.
A white Dodge Durango, making a left-hand turn heading westbound, did not see the two young boys.
“The driver stated he was looking at two men in the other crosswalk,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “He did not see the brothers and knocked them over.”
Molendyk said the driver stopped immediately, offered assistance to the kids and was cooperative with police.
The boys’ mother also attended the scene. The pair were taken to hospital to be checked out. Neither was seriously injured, though one boy complained of shoulder soreness.
The driver of the Durango, a 44-year-old Vernon man, was given a ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian at a green light.
