A rollover on Highway 4 caused some minor traffic delays on Thursday morning, but the driver involved in the crash has not been located.
On Thursday, Nov. 23 at 5:12 a.m., Port Alberni RCMP responded to a single vehicle crash on Highway 4 at the S curves on the east end of the hump, heading into Cathedral Grove.
A grey Ford F150 pickup truck had been travelling eastbound when it lost control going through the S curves near the bottom of the hill and rolled onto its side, blocking the eastbound lane of travel.
The vehicle’s engine was still running upon police arrival, but the pickup was unoccupied. A Caucasian man between 20 and 30 years of age with light brown hair was seen in the immediate area prior to police arrival, but he could not be located upon police attendance.
There were some minor traffic delays in both directions as a direct result of the crash.
RCMP Cpl. Amelia Hayden later confirmed that the pickup was a recovered stolen vehicle.
The police investigation is ongoing. Police would like to speak with the man seen in the area, as well as anyone else who may have witnessed the crash. Please contact Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424 or Alberni Valley Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
