The car stolen from a Silver Creek driveway last Monday has been found 240 kilometres away in Kelowna.
The car, a 2003 VW Passat, was stolen from a driveway on Beacon Road in Silver Creek with the owners mere feet away. The car was located in Kelowna, Staff Sgt. Karol Rehdner with the Hope RCMP confirmed, and an investigation into who stole it continues.
The owner had left the car running in the driveway when the thieves made away with the vehicle.
“Someone jumped in the car and took off with a black car in the lead. (The) car was running while the owner went inside to grab her cell phone,” Mark Petryk posted on the Hope BC Bulletin Board Facebook group Oct. 22.
Sgt. Rehdner said police sent out word to neighbouring detachments and checked areas where vehicles have been found in the past, such as rural forest service roads and an address in Yale. Police also checked with people known to police.
RCMP still have no suspects for this theft, although during their investigation they arrested a person on an outstanding warrant unrelated to the stolen vehicle.
Melissa Dunlop got in touch with The Hope Standard Oct. 24 to say she had spotted the car in Kelowna and reported it to police. This was confirmed by the Hope RCMP.
