One person was sent to hospital after a single-vehicle incident on Highway 19 southbound, Tuesday morning.

One person was sent to hospital after a single-vehicle incident on Highway 19 southbound, Tuesday morning.

The Kia Soul veered off the highway just past the Puntledge River bridge.

The lone occupant was conscious when emergency personnel arrived, and was helped out of the vehicle and into an ambulance for transportation to the hospital.

Although area highways were very wet due to a heavy overnight rainfall, Courtenay Fire Chief Don Bardonnex said that was not a mitigating factor in the incident.

“I believe it was some sort of medical issue,” said Bardonnex. “I don’t think [road conditions] played a factor.”
