Testimony in the trial of Joelon Verma indicates murder victim Brittney Irving (above) was a long-time drug user with a serious Oxycontin addiction and a high-rolling lifestyle funded by her own drug deals.

A week after Brittney Irving went missing, the man now accused of killing her told police he didn’t know what happened to her.

“If I felt if I was in any sort of situation, I wouldn’t be here. I’d be in a f—ing lawyer’s office,” Joelon Verma told Const. Fred Coon on April 13, 2010. “I just hope f—ing this gets cleared up.”

“I know it’s always happening…it’s sad I’m sitting here for f—ing meeting this chick.”

Verma said he heard that Irving’s brother told others that he was working on a drug deal with Irving. “It was f—ing two pounds,” said Verma, not the large deal her brother and others believed she was brokering with him. “They were talking, like, lots.”

“I told them I had nothing to do with it.”

“I don’t know if I’m being blamed for something,” said Verma later. “It’s the drug world, man.”

Irving was last seen alive on April 6, 2010, and brokers she was dealing with said she was working on filling a large marijuana order—suggested last week by several witnesses to be around 70 pounds.

Her brother testified that Irving was working on the order with a man named “Joey” and broker Brad Saari testified a “friend” was helping her get the order together to help pay for a lawyer.

The court has heard Irving was faced with legal bills after her marijuana grow operation was busted the month before.

Irving’s abandoned vehicle was found off Philpott Road a day after she was last seen alive, and her body was found in a wooded area off Mcculloch Forest Service Road on April 26, 2010.

Verma is charged with first degree murder in her death.
