Vernon firefighters rally around child

At 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, firefighters received a report of a five-year-old stuck in a reclining chair.

Vernon firefighters came to the rescue of a small child and their parents Wednesday.

At 5:30 p.m., firefighters received a report of a five-year-old stuck in a reclining chair.

“Some how, the child got their head jammed in there and the parents were concerned about how to handle it,” said Jack Blair, deputy fire chief.

Firefighters soon arrived on scene.

“They compressed the foam enough to gently pull the child out without any injury,” said Blair.

While an unusual call-out, Blair says the fire department wanted to ensure the child was safe and the parents were put at ease.

“Our job is to be there to help and do it to the best of our abilities,” he said.
