Vernon Jubilee Hospital is among those being sued over alleged negligence.
Shannon Harder-Kohnert of Lumby has filed a notice of civil claim in B.C. Supreme Court against VJH, as represented by the Interior Health Authority, two physicians and two nurses.
Harder-Kohnert, who has Crohn’s disease, was in VJH for treatment while awaiting bowel transplant surgery, and the claim alleges she was mistakenly given insulin instead of liquid Gravol Dec. 21, 2010.
“As a result of the error, the plaintiff experienced a hypoglycaemic event which caused the plaintiff to lose consciousness and strike her head on the floor of a bathroom located at VJH,” states the document.
The notice of civil claim alleges Harder-Kohnert sustained facial contusions, brain injury, cognitive problems, vision problems, dizziness and severe headaches.
“The plaintiff has sustained special damages, loss and expense for medical treatment and the plaintiff continues to undergo medical care and treatment and continues to sustain loss and expense,” it states.
The relief being sought from the defendants is general damages, special damages and an in-trust claim for relatives and others who provided care. No exact dollar figure is disclosed within the document.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
The Interior Health Authority says it will not provide comment as the matter is before the court.
