Green candidate Keli Westgate has been involved in sustainability within the community in the past few years.
With a background in multimedia production and communications, Westgate is currently employed in commercial organic food waste composting.
As the sales and marketing manager for Spa Hills Compost, Westgate helps businesses reduce their organic waste by diverting it from landfills and is involved in getting residential curbside composting going in the region.
The Green candidate is also a director for the non-profit Sustainable Environment Network Society whose mission is to improve water, land and air quality on a local level.
She presented to the City of Vernon and the Regional District of the North Okanagan to get them to agree to become Blue Dot Communities, a David Suzuki Foundation program that seeks to protect the health of the community through environmental protection.
Also a Certified Permaculture Designer, Westgate has a Certificate in Liberal Studies from the University of British Columbia.
During her time in the communications industry in Vancouver and Toronto, Keli worked with high level professional Associations, on both a National and Provincial level. She is also a film and television producer, having worked on TV commercials, documentaries, music videos and corporate communications.
A former Rotary Exchange student, Westgate returned to Canada where she was hired by the Ministry of the Attorney General, Youth Programs Division as a workshop facilitator on the topic of Gang and Youth Violence prevention.
She was on the Board of the Historic O’Keefe Ranch & with her background in public speaking, Westgate gets asked to speak on local sustainability initiatives, social media training, and alternative housing.
Born in Vernon and raised in a number of towns around BC, Westgate has moved her family back and is dedicated to increasing local resilience and improving the community.
