B.C. Liberals continue to lag in the opinion polls, but a party member is confident next spring’s election will be a success.
Eric Foster, Vernon-Monashee MLA, was among the delegates at the Liberal convention in Whistler Friday and Saturday.
“We had 1,000 people here which is great. People are fired up,” he said.
This was the last major gathering of party members before British Columbians vote in May.
“It’s important for sure,” said Foster of the session.
The convention agenda included policy sessions, cabinet accountability, an election campaign overview and campaign training sessions.
Premier Christy Clark gave a keynote address Saturday.
But beyond the procedural activities, Foster says it’s important for the media and the public to see that the B.C. Liberals are strong and not fragmented.
“People need to know there is a solid team and we’re moving forward,” he said.
“We’ve got some exciting new candidates for the election.”
However, one of the province’s opposition parties insists the Liberals cannot win a fourth term.
“It is understandable that Christy Clark and the other Liberals want to put the best possible spin on events as they gather for convention this weekend,” said John Cummins, B.C. Conservative leader, in a release.
“But an objective examination of readily-available evidence clearly demonstrates that both the leader and the party are in obvious decline, and their brand is badly tarnished.”
