Maybe it was his method of trying to get into the truck that alerted a Vernon resident to a suspicious man in the downtown area.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. Monday, Vernon RCMP received a report from a concerned citizen in the 3300 block of Centennial Drive that an unknown man was seen throwing rocks at the back window of a black truck.

According to the citizen, the man threw rocks at the window until it broke, then climbed inside.

“Our officers responded to the scene and noticed the man was still inside the vehicle, rummaging through items,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “Our officers called the suspect out of the truck.”

When the man got out of the truck, Molendyk said officers “immediately recognized him.”

“He is known to our officers from property-related and other offences,” said Molendyk.

The 36-year-old Vernon man was arrested and remanded in custody pending a court appearance on Monday on a charge of mischief.

As there were other thefts from vehicles over the weekend, Molendyk said police would be looking to see if there was a possible connection to the truck suspect.
