Vernon RCMP investigate rash of break-and-enters

Three Vernon businesses and two residences broken into; arrest made in connection with one file

A rash of break-and-enters have Vernon RCMP appealing to the public for help.

Police did make an arrest in one case, involving a break-in Nov. 9 at a home in the 7300 block of Longacre Drive, in Okanagan Landing, where entry to the home was gained by smashing a window.

A significant amount of electronic and camera equipment was stolen from the home.

“Our investigation led to the arrest of a 37-year old Vernon man on Nov. 10,” said Vernon RCMP Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

Police work and the fact the residence had surveillance cameras set up helped them make the arrest.

The man is facing a recommended charge of break-and-enter.

The matter, along with three other such break-and-enters, remains under investigation.

On Nov. 8, at about 3:30 a.m., police responded to an alarm at Shoppers Drug Mart on 27th Street.

An unknown person had broken one of the front windows and stole several high-end electric toothbrushes.

Later that night, at approximately 11:20 p.m., police responded to an alarm at Nicolas and Marie’s Pizza on 27th Street.

An undisclosed amount of money had been stolen from the business.

While on scene, police found that a neighbouring business, Universal Hair Studios, had also been broken into.

“A front window had been smashed to gain entry, and an undisclosed amount of money was stolen from this business as well,” said Noseworthy.

In the BX, sometime between Oct. 29 and Nov. 8, someone entered a travel trailer parked at a home in the 6700 block of Dixon Dam Road and stole a Chariot Cougar II stroller and a CCM Northridge mountain bike.

“The stroller is described as purple and red in colour with two castor tires on the rear and missing a front tire, handbar and rain cover,” said Noseworthy.

“The bike is described as a year 2000 model, and purple and orange in colour.”

Anyone with information on any of the break-and-enters is asked to call the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP at (250) 545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
