Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP are investigating a suspicious car fire in Coldstream.

Officers were called to the fire just before 5 a.m. Monday near Palfrey Drive and Cunliffe Road.

“The vehicle is a Subaru and it was totally engulfed when officers arrived,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “It was burned to the point the officer initially was not able to determine what type of vehicle it was.”

A forensic identification unit was brought in to assist with the investigation.

Officers also received a report Monday of a Subaru stolen from an area near where the car was found on fire.

A bumper and a licence plate belonging to the stolen vehicle were found near Kidston Elementary School, where a chain link fence suffered significant damage after being crashed into.
