Two Vernon men could be facing charges following a report of a theft from a vehicle Sunday night.
Vernon RCMP officers responded to a complaint from a citizen Sunday at 10:30 p.m. that two men with black and white hoodies had broken into a vehicle in the area of 37th Avenue and 28A Street, then headed west on foot on 37th Avenue.
A short time later, a police dog service (PDS) officer responding to the crime scene noticed two men matching the suspects’ descriptions in the vicinity of 27th Avenue and Highway 6.
“The two suspects were detained by the officer, then turned over to other officers while the PDS officer went to the vehicle that had been broken into,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “The PDS team then tracked away from the vehicle and right up to where the two suspects were detained.”
While on the track, said Molendyk, a stereo face plate removed from the vehicle was recovered.
One of the suspects, a 24-year-old Vernon resident, is on parole and was in breach of his conditions. He was remanded in custody. The second suspect was released.
“The file is still being investigated by our office with the possibility of further charges being laid,” said Molendyk.
