Vernon woman keys in on helpers

Woman leaves keys in back seat of car owned by couple who offered a ride after car troubles on Highway 97A near Armstrong

All Brooke MacDonald wants for Christmas is her keys returned.

To do that, the Vernon woman has turned to social media to help find a pair of anonymous Good Samaritans.

MacDonald and her boyfriend, Jamie, were driving toward Vernon from Armstrong on Highway 97A Sunday when they experienced car trouble.

“A nice couple stopped in a newer model blue Honda to pick us up and take us home,” said MacDonald, 20.

“I left our keys in the back seat of their car in all the commotion. Christmas is right around the corner and I just can’t afford to get keys cut for my old Buick LeSabre.”

The keys contained MacDonald’s house keys, work keys, car keys and laundry keys.

“Basically, my life is on that key chain,” said MacDonald, who pegged the Good Samaritans as “very friendly and probably between the ages of 55 and 65.”

She asked The Morning Star to help spread the word by posting her predicament on the paper’s Facebook page.

As of 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, the post had reached more than 24,000 people and had been shared (posted on others’ pages) more than 530 times.

“Thank you, Morning Star,” wrote MacDonald on the post. “I am overwhelmed at the response this has gotten.

“I have lived all over in my 20 years on this Earth and I haven’t seen this type of response to someone’s plight. Thank you to everyone who has shared my post.”

MacDonald still hadn’t heard from the couple or from anyone who might know them. If you can help, contact The Morning Star Facebook page via message, or email newstips@vernonmorningstar.com.
