Victim in 70 Mile crash identified

74-year-old Lillooet man was the victim of a deadly two-vehicle crash that closed Highway 97

A 74-year-old Lillooet man was the victim of a deadly two-vehicle crash that closed Highway 97 near 70 Mile on Jan. 19.

The identity of Drago Bjelica was released by the BC Coroners Service on Jan. 27.

He was the driver and sole occupant of a northbound pickup truck that was in a head-on collision with a southbound pickup truck on Highway 97 near the 80-mile mark at about 8 a.m.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP Traffic Services continue to investigate this death.

Bjelica’s family has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service requests that the media respect their privacy during this difficult time.
