Victoria councillors to consider parking review

Hours of operation, time limits, partial automation of parkades to be considered

Victoria councillors will consider approving a comprehensive review of the city’s nearly 2,000 on-street metered parking spaces, five parkades, four surface parking lots and parking regulations tomorrow.

Last year, parking services generated more than $15.6 million in revenue, about eight per cent of the City’s annual operating budget, according to a staff report. About half that amount was used to fund city services other than parking and bylaw enforcement.

But parkade use is down significantly from prior years, and the city wants to increase street parking turnover to generate more revenue and satisfy downtown businesses.

The review will consider hours of operation, time limits, partial automation of parkades and advertising in parkades, among other efficiencies.
