Three months after the theft of more than 50 bags of pet food was stolen from its Sooke depot, the Victoria Pet Food Bank and Feral Cat Rehabilitation Society has become a victim of its own success.

The days following the theft where thieves stole the pet food from a supply shed near Sooke Skate Park, donations came flooding in but so did more people asking for assistance and unwanted pets, said Margarita Dominguez, Victoria Pet Food Bank president.

The society delivers pet food to more than 30 needy families in Sooke and routinely adopts pet out, Dominguez said.

“A lot of people in this town don’t know about the problem. The need continues for families and pets,” she said.

“The food donations are used up and the need is always there.”

Pet food donations can be made at Village Foods or Whiskers and Wags or by calling 778-352-2999.

Anyone with information on the shed theft is asked to contact police at 250-642-5241 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
