Victoria police investigating suspicious death

It's the city's fourth suspicious death in the last two months

Victoria police and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit are investigating the city’s fourth suspicious death in the last two months.

On Thursday at about 10 p.m., police discovered the body of a Victoria man in an apartment building in the 1500-block of Begbie Street. The building and a section of Begbie Street remain cordoned off as officers investigate.

At this time there is no reason to believe that the public may be at risk.

Last month, police charged Daniel Penney, 51, with second-degree murder in the death of his estranged wife Mary Caitlin Walton, 46.

Walton’s body was found in her home and was first described as suspicious.

Police are also investigating the March 5 death of Scott Owen Smith, 26, whose body was found in the Inner Harbour March 5, and Peter Hunter Thompson, 49, who was found dead in his Michigan Street apartment on Feb. 18.
