A Victoria police officer was sent to hospital with non life-threatening injuries received while making an arrest during a domestic assault investigation Wednesday night.

The 911 Communications Centre received a call around 8:45 p.m., but nobody spoke when answered. Call takers, however, heard the sounds of an assault in progress and were able to quickly identify the location of the call to send officers to the scene.

While officers were en route to the home, the victim of the assault was able to get away from her attacker and lock herself inside a bathroom. When police arrived, the suspect became aggressive and injured one of the officers during the course of the arrest. The officer was taken to hospital and released.

The man is expected to face charges for breaching conditions and assault.
