SURREY — A car crashed through the window of a Surrey shop under renovation and narrowly missed a construction worker inside.

It happened at around noon Monday at the Nordel Crossing mall on Scott Road, near Save-On Foods.

“The guy drove right through the window and missed the construction worker by, like, an inch,” said Michelle Ivanusec, who works in the Lifemark physio office on the second floor.”He got out of the car and there was lots of swearing. The construction worker was yelling at him for almost killing him. It sounded like they were going to fight and then the (driver) ran away. He was clearly out of his mind.”

A crew is working to renovate a former salon into a gym, she said.

“The sushi shop next door is always super busy, so thankfully (the car) didn’t hit there,” Ivanusec said.

A police dog was called to the scene in search of the suspect driver, Surrey police said.

“We’re working to contact the registered owner of the vehicle,” Surrey RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Scotty Schumann told the Now-Leader on Monday afternoon.
