Abbotsford firefighters spent much of Saturday night fighting a large blaze at a rubber mat factory, marking the second fire at that location in under three years.
Crews were called to North-West Rubber Ltd. at around 9:45 p.m., where a fire had sparked in the pallets of rubber mats at the location.
Firefighters responded to another fire at this location in December 2015.

“It’s pretty tough. There are access issues getting in, and we’re not able to get trucks right in, so long lays of hose getting in, and then also with the pallets being stacked closely together, it’s very difficult,” said Deputy Chief Jeff Adams with the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service.
He added smoke from fire in rubber produces a lot of smoke, causing issues in the area.
“We try to keep people out of the area. We’ll be here for a while. We’re trying to get some forklift operators, get some of the product moved out of the way so we can get better access to the product.”
Firefighters have not stated a cause of the fire at this time.
