Thornhill Volunteer Fire Department facilitated a procession in honour of firefighter Karl Meyer who lost his life during northwest B.C.’s deluge first week of June.
Fire chief Rick Boehm led the procession in his fire truck on Sunday, June 13 and was joined by over 20 other first responder vehicles across emergency services.
“Meyer was an active member of the Thornhill fire department for the past five years,” said Boehm. On June 3, 73-year-old Meyer was found dead in a flooded basement at his home in New Remo.

Members from the BC Highways team whom Meyers worked closely with as well as local First Nations also joined in, said Boehm.
After an intimate gathering with Meyer’s family members at a private mill site in Thornhill at 2 p.m. on Sunday June 13, the firefighters’ began the motorcade and passed through Terrace. They proceeded to fire hall 4 – which was Meyer’s station– and ended in New Remo where he resided.
