UPDATE: 6 p.m.
Owners Arlene and Bob Spearman were not home when a fire erupted in their garage.
According to Deputy Fire Chief David Lind, neighbours heard popping and some explosions followed by black smoke billowing out.
“I feel sick to my stomach,” said Arlene. “There was nothing combustible in the garage other than the car.”
The Spearman’s 2017 Prius was parked in garage, and was destroyed.
Lind says the blaze was mostly contained to the garage.

ORIGINAL: 5:20 p.m.
A blaze destroyed the garage of a home in the 800 block of Mt. Bulman Place on Middleton Mountain.
The fire broke out just before 4 p.m. and a black plume of smoke could be seen rising from across the city.
Vernon Fire Rescue Services remain on scene dealing with the incident.
