Kelowna’s mayor is encouraging continued support of local businesses in light of a noticeable lull in tourism.
On the City of Kelowna’s YouTube channel, Mayor Colin Basran said that local flood news washing over Canada has prompted many to cancel their trips to the region, putting a serious damper on the profit margins on local businesses.
“We encourage people to still come and visit us because this is still an incredible time of year to visit,” he said, in the video clip.
Basran also said that it’s time for area residents to show their support and start shopping, locally.
“We know people have cancelled their trips here, to our community, as a result of the coverage that we’ve received right across the country, in regards to the flooding,” he said.
“So it’s now, more than ever, vitally important that we, as residents shop local, support our local businesses.”
