The wave of discontent with the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump was felt in the Shuswap today.
Marching in solidarity with similar protests in Washington D.C. and elsewhere, approximately 30 residents of Salmon Arm and the surrounding area marched from City Hall to the Ross Street Plaza.
Several members of the group carried signs reading “This is not a women’s issue this is a human rights issue” and “Electile Dysfunction” amongst others.
The group received encouraging honks from passing cars as they walked along the Trans-Canada Highway.
Once they arrived at the Ross Street Plaza, members of the group spoke about equal rights for women, visible minorities and LGBT people. The possible threat of encroaching “Trumpism” embodied by Conservative Party leadership candidates Kellie Leitch and Kevin O’Leary was also discussed.
A moment of silence was observed before the group went their separate ways.
