A car that was apparently hit by a semi-trailer unit ended up in a farmer’s field off Hwy. 1 in Abbotsford on Friday morning.

Witnesses on the scene said  a red Mazda 3 driven by a woman was travelling eastbound on Hwy. 1 just past Whatcom Road when it was struck by a semi, which continued  away from the scene.

The impact knocked the small car off the road  and down a slight embankment, across South Parallel Road, and a substantial distance into a farmer’s field.

It’s possible the car’s throttle became struck, according to witnesses.

Four police cars responded, was well as the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service and an ambulance.

The woman was  taken out of the car by ambulance crews, and transported  to hospital. It is believed she is not seriously injured.
