Residents in View Royal will only see a minor increase in taxes this year.
Property taxes are set to go up by 0.92 per cent for 2018, way below the eight per cent tax increase staff projected when it first presented the draft financial plan to council last month.
“We worked hard to bring the increase down and it’s still a good budget. We’re still investing in the Town, but we’ve managed to keep the increase minimal,” Mayor David Screech said.
“We’re very happy to be able to keep the tax increase that low.”

Non-core projects – those initiatives that represent one-time costs or changes in levels of service – make up a significant part of the total tax increase, such as election expenses in October, a study to review the Town’s development cost charges bylaw to ensure it’s up to date, as well as the replacement of the roof on the main building at Centennial Park and repainting of Parson’s Bridge.
Last year’s tax increase was 0.42 per cent.
