View Royal seeks input on emissions plan

View Royal has a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emission in municipal buildings — now residents will be asked to follow the lead.

The Town is in the early stages of developing a Community Energy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Plan and is looking for public feedback on how to set and meet reduction goals.

Possible outcomes might be the Town funding a home retrofit program or improving active transportation networks, explained director of development services Lindsay Chase.

“We’re taking a bottom up approach,” Chase said. “We’re asking people what they want. We don’t want to put money into something people might not use.”

To get the brainstorming started, the Town has organized open houses, including one tonight (May 4) from 6 to 8 p.m., at the town hall, where display boards will show options for living a more eco-friendly lifestyle.

There is also a survey on the Town’s website to find out what residents have already done to reduce their energy use and what they’re willing to do.

For more information see www.viewroyal.ca and find the plan under projects, under the town hall tab.
