The Abbotsford Islamic Centre is inviting the community to attend a vigil to commemorate the lives lost in the recent terrorist attack in London, Ont.
The vigil is scheduled for Friday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m., and it will occur at the AIC located at 1980 Salton Road.
All COVID-19 guidelines will be implemented at the vigil.
A family of five Muslims were mowed down on Sunday (June 6) by a pick-up truck driven by 20-year-old Nathaniel Veltman. Four of the five family members died as a result, with a nine-year-old family member suffering serious injuries. Salman Afzaal, 46, his 44-year-old wife Madiha Salman, their 15-year-old daughter Yumna Salman and Afzaal’s 74-year-old mother lost their lives. Nine-year-old Fayez is expected to survive the attack.

The family was waiting to cross the road at an intersection on a dry, clear day in the city’s northwest end when a black pickup mounted the curb, struck them, then sped off. Police believe that the family was targeted because they were Muslim.
