Village makes impression

Lumby earns a three-bloom rating (out of five) for its first year taking part in the Communities in Bloom program

Lumby is blooming.

The Village earned a three-bloom rating (out of five) for its first year taking part in the Communities in Bloom program.

“For a new community in the program they just sort of raved about it,” said Mayor Kevin Acton.

One particular area of impression was Lumby’s forestry program at Charles Bloom.

Quit assist applauded

Pressure to butt out is creating a healthier community in Lumby.

Acton has high praise for the UBC Okanagan nurses who are out again for their third year in a row.

“We have three nurses who come out and work with our students and seniors and figure out how to make our community healthier,” said Acton.

The result has been great for public areas.

“Already we’ve noticed around the park and skateboard park there’s not as many people smoking,” said Acton, adding that the result is more families and young children utilizing the facilities.
