Village plugs into station idea

Lumby looking at electric car charging station as part of its master transportation plan

Lumby council got a charge out of a presentation from the Sustainable Environment Network Society.

The society brought out some electric cars to the recent council meeting in hopes of urging council to consider installing an electric car charging station in the village.

“The whole presentation was fantastic,” said Mayor Kevin Acton. “We had a look at the cars they brought out and we chatted about the fact that the provincial government is covering stations in cities that are on major arteries.”

Acton said council is interested in looking at an electric car charging station as part of its master transportation plan. The matter has been deferred to the fall when Lumby works on its strategic plan.

If such a station was granted, Acton said it would be centrally located within the village.

“We talked about putting it near the village office, but that’s not really centralized,” he said. “It would likely be in the downtown core and we’d look at partnering with the chamber and other businesses.”
