Clearwater continues to become more walkable and bikeable.
The section of Clearwater Village Road from Wells Gray Inn up the hill to Clearwater firehall is being converted from three lanes to traffic to two, according to District of Clearwater’s chief administrative officer Leslie Groulx.
What was the third lane will become a multi-use trail for use by pedestrians, runners, cyclists and scooters.
Having a passing lane on the hill no longer makes sense, now that the section of road is no longer part of the highway, she pointed out.
On the other hand, this part of Clearwater Village Road is heavily used by non-motorized traffic and needs an upgrade to make it safe.
Groulx noted that the change was recommended by the District’s trails task force committee, which was established in 2014 in the effort to work with town council to make travelling by car, foot or bike within town safe and to connect the different parts of Clearwater efficiently.
The CAO encouraged anyone with questions to call Mike Smith, District of Clearwater’s fleet, equipment and roads manager at 250.674.2257 or email msmith@docbc.ca.
