Virtual Abbotsford all-candidates meetings set for next week

Events will be recorded and viewable online

Several all-candidates meetings are set for next week in Abbotsford, but they’re going to be a little bit different than normal.

Different doesn’t mean bad, though: for the first time all the meetings hosted by the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board, Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce and Fraser Valley Indo-Canadian Business Association will be viewable in their entirety online.

The meetings will be held and presented online, with anybody able to watch on Facebook, or through the chamber’s website. This is the first time organizers will be recording and posting video of the events online.

Candidates will be given questions prior to the meeting to respond to, but moderators will also pose questions during the meeting that have been submitted live online by viewers participating in the Zoom event. (See below for details)

“We are looking forward to providing focused discussions on the business issues that matter to our members and community,” chamber president Melinda Friesen said in a news release. “This opportunity enables us to meet the candidates, get engaged in the democratic process and evaluate their responses.”

Separate meetings will be held for each of Abbotsford’s three local ridings next week.

Abbotsford-Mission: Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020; noon to 2 p.m.

Abbotsford West: Tuesday, Oct. 6; 4 to 6 p.m.

Abbotsford South: Thursday, Oct. 8; noon to 2 p.m.

To register in advance for the Zoom events, go to abbotsfordchamber.com/events and click ‘Chamber Calendar.’ While the public will be able to watch on the chamber’s Facebook feed, those who wish to ask a question will need to participate in the Zoom meeting. There is a 500-person cap for each event.
