On December 9, local Community Paramedic Mikael Kjellström introduced the Community Paramedicine Initiative to seniors at the Barriere & District Senior Centre.
The event was well received, and interest in putting on a free CPR/AED awareness training session is in the works for the new year.
Kjellström also advises that on the second Tuesday of every month, the community paramedic will host a wellness clinic from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Barriere & District Senior Centre for the general public, starting Jan. 8.
This free one-on-one vitals clinic will provide essential services such as blood pressure and vital signs assessments, information about health conditions like Diabetes, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Congestive Heart Failure and Fall Prevention.
No appointments are necessary as it will be a first come first served basis, and all appointments are one-on-one. You do not have to be a senior to attend the clinic.
The next clinic will be held on Tuesday, January 8, at the Senior’s Centre on Barriere Town Road.
